Succulent free range Karoo Lamb and a wide variety of game such as Kudu, Impala, Ostrich Neck Casserole and Springbuck are on the menu.

Kudu Hunters Pot, venison dishes like fillet or venison roasts are our speciality and Springbuck Carpaccio give new meaning to age old cooking terms.
 

We strive to use traditional African cooking methods like traditional CAST IRON COOKING POTS (potjie).
Long before the arrival of the early settlers in the Cape, the Bantu people learned the use of the cast iron cooking pot from Arab traders and later the Portuguese colonists.
The round potbellied cast iron pot was the perfect cooking utensil to suit the nomadic lifestyle of the black tribes and the Voortrekkers during the 17th and 18th centuries. Potjiekos evolved as a stew, made of venison and vegetables (if the latter were available).
These cast iron pots were able to retain heat well and only a few coals were needed to keep the food simmering for hours. They were used to cook tender roasts and stews, allowing steam to circulate inside instead of escaping through the lid.
Today, cooking up a POTJIE has evolved into a unique South African social happening, a tradition almost as popular as the legendary braai.
 

Whilst enjoying a TRADITIONAL BRAAI (‘barbecue’) in the outside lapa, you can relax around a crackling fire in the adjacent boma.
 

The indigenous delicacies such as biltong (dried, salted meat also called “jerky”) find new converts when made locally from Game.

BOBOTIE, using venison, tastes much better than the original brought to us by the Cape Malay and is a much improved version of the “sheperd’s pie” and boerewors (hand-made farm sausages, grilled on an open flame).
 

Our meals are complimented by a selection of excellent South African wines specially selected for your enjoyment.

Meals reflect the legendary hospitality of South Africa and specifically that of Valley Bushveld Country Lodge.
